Electronic title work?

Posted: November 28th, 2006

A local Title company apparently completed the first all-electronic settlement in Pa this past month. I read the article with interest – all the spin put on the event was that it is a giant step forward for the industry.

Is anyone else worried about the decline of the signature as a seal? It seems clear to me, at least, that it would be best if the buyer always has to sign on the dotted line when agreeing to purchase a property. The seller, too; their “John Hancock” should be preserved against any future claim. The notary’s written affirmation seals the deal. Some things in this world should not be reduced to typing in your PIN…real estate ownership being one foremost in my mind.

The rush to digitize everything needs to have some boundaries, IMHO.
