A Re/Max office has been charged by HUD with fair housing violations stemming from a situation where an african-american buyer was denied a showing by the brokerage’s customer on the basis of her race. Re/Max then disallowed the buyer agent from showing the house. Oops! It’s surprising that a professional would allow themselves to get roped in by a discriminatory customer. As a Realtor, if your customer begins saying anything that indicates illegal bias, you make an effort to correct their perspective by reminding them of the law and that fact that it’s just plain bad business. If that doesn’t pull them up short, then you thank them for their time and move on. It’s just not worth it.
Here’s the story on the Re/Max mess. Have a great weekend!
