Lancaster City, PA – West End

Posted: November 24th, 2008

Bordered on the southside by Manor Ave / Millersville Pike and on the north by King St / Columbia Ave. Although the area around F&M college is often referred to as “the west end” historically it was called Chestnut Hill, more on that in another post. See a neighborhood map on Lancaster City Living’s website.

The architecture of the area breaks down into two types. Victorian row houses, duplexes and detached houses. There are two Lancaster School District Elementary schools: James Buchanan Elementary School located on South West End Ave and Wheatland Middle School located on Hamilton Park Drive.

Two parks in this area are: Crystal park on the 500 block of First St and Rodney park on Crystal and Third Streets. A few churches here are Glad Tidings Temple (Caroline and Crystal Streets), Pearl Street United Methodist Church (LUMINA) (133 Pearl Street) and Redeemer Lutheran Church (500 Pearl Street).

Alfred and Sam Bakery (Manor Street and Fairview Avenue) and Historic Blue Star Hotel and Victorian Tavern (602 West King Street) are a few places to get something to eat.
