Today was an interesting day. Aside from the usual hustle-and-bustle over at the Coldwell Banker HQ in Lancaster, PA – and with the Jeff Geoghan Realty Group (which is having a great week so far), I made official two major servant opportunities on the personal front.
1) A picture is worth a thousand words:

I announced my official candidacy for Mayor of my hometown, East Petersburg PA. I’ve been on Town Council for four years and my term was up this year. Now our mayor is a great guy and dedicated, so I had no intention of running against him this year. Then he went and made it known he would be stepping down after three terms…so I decided to run for his seat. Tonight at our monthly council meeting he made his public announcement and I handed in my initial petition (filled out) to go on the ballot…you’ll be reading about my adventures, don’t you worry…
2) On a completely different note, my wife and I decided to take advantage of a great opportunity to serve in a different way – to enroll our entire family (of 5) for a mission trip sponsored by our church (Calvary Church of Lancaster PA) coming up next month. We wer hoping to be able to model servanthood to our kids early and often, and this was a perfect way to do that. The trip is to help out Harmony Heart Camp in Northeast Pennsylvania, getting them ready for the camp season by doing cleanup, painting and some construction work. I’m excited to have my boys along (7 and 6 yrs old) to work alongside me. Of course, I’ll be posting about our experiences.
Every year there are a few days that bring some changes that we remember. I think today may be on of those for our family in 2009. May you have a few yourselves!
