The 2010 Lancaster Parade of Homes runs June 12-20, which is this coming Saturday…Jeff Geoghan of Coldwell Banker’s Lancaster Office has a just-completed home entered that was built by the students and staff of the Lancaster Career & Technology Center in Mount Joy, PA. The home was built to achieve a gold rating from the National Association of Homebuilder’s Green standards.
The home is 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths and 2,501 square feet (excluding the semi-attached garage and superior walls basement). There are some beautiful design features such as the wraparound porch that connect to the garage, a large central staircase with sizable landing, and a second-floor laundry room that you can stretch out in.
What’s really cool, however, are the myriad of green features that went into the homes construction:
| What we did… | What this means to you… |
| Geothermal ground-loop heat pump | High-efficiency heating & cooling |
| Solar photovoltaic (PV) 4 KW Array | Independent power generation, significantly reduced energy costs |
| Rainwater harvesting and reuse system | Less public water usage, reduced stormwater runoff |
| Tight building design – advancing framing, energy efficient windows, cellulose insulation | Year round indoor comfort, reduced noise |
| Low VOC finish materials, recycled products | Reduced environmental impact, indoor air quality |
| Solar hot water array with tankless backup | Reduced energy use heating potable water |
| Low flow faucets, dual flush toilets | Less wasted water from daily activities |
| Energy Star appliances throughout | Lower energy consumption |
| Extended roof overhangs | Provide shading and protect from water infiltration |
| Native plant & low water use landscaping | Lower water consumption |
| Metal roofing system | Long-lasting, durable material that looks great |
There’s a LOT more that was done as well. Visit the community website at www.ApprenticeGreenHomes.com to see details on the home (560 Old Market Street, Mount Joy PA 17552) or the details on the community, the LCCTC building program and more. if you are interested in a green home or hope to buy a traditional home and upgrade it with green features, check out Jeff Geoghan’s “SmartGreen Homebuyer Program“.
Hope to see you out at the parade – be sure to say hi to Jeff!

Some time before, I needed to buy a car for my organization but I did not earn enough cash and couldn’t order something. Thank heaven my friend adviced to get the credit loans at trustworthy creditors. Therefore, I did so and was satisfied with my college loan.
